Blockchain gaming platform, Gala Games, today announced that Spider Tanks, the first Web3 PvP esports brawler, will launch on Oct 31. It will be the debut game on Project GYRI, Gala Games’ proprietary games-first blockchain.

Developed by award-winning Netherlands-based game studio, GAMEDIA, Spider Tanks is free to play, but also incorporates a variety of play-to-earn mechanics that centre around skill-based competition, resource collection, and a player-driven upgrade cycle to earn rewards.

Players can build their own mechanical monsters by assembling tank bodies and weapons in the garage. Once their tanks are complete, players can battle it out in the game’s arena maps.

The esports brawler allows gamers to play with their close group of friends or test their skills in high-stakes competitions. Almost 25,000 players have already participated weekly in a recent public playtest, which resulted in a total of more than 600,000 matches.

There is also a Spider Tanks store, where players can purchase fully tradable and upgradeable weapons, tanks and bodies.

“Yet again we are ushering in new firsts in gaming as we get set to launch the first Web PvP esports brawler with earnings. Both players who play for free and those who choose to make purchases can be rewarded for their efforts,” said John Osvald, President of Games at Gala Games. “The launch of this game, coupled with that of our own blockchain, is further cementing our commitment to empowering gamers through ownership.”

To keep the gameplay fresh, Spider Tanks features three different game modes. Team Deathmatch is an all-out brawl-style match; Capture the Chicken challenges players to catch as many moving chickens as possible; and in Capture the Flag, the team would have to hold the flag in their possession for as long as possible.

Some of the game’s new features include the ability for players to build an army, upgrade their army to increase power, choose their battleground, and more.

Ahead of the game’s launch, Gala is kicking off a limited-time sale for its Spider Tanks Planetary Nodes, which will be operated by community members who have purchased licenses in this sale. In return for using their computing resources to power the decentralized Spider Tanks ecosystem, Node operator-owners will earn regular rewards.

In February, Gala announced that it will be allocating $5 billion to ramp up its NFT efforts within the next year, with $2 million going to blockchain games.
