Lumos Labs, a Singapore-based innovation management firm, has launched the #Buidl for Web3 Hackathon to support developers who want to start their Web3 journey.
The developers as well as startups will also win prizes from over $100,000 pool, the company said in a statement.
The hackathon is for the developers who want to start their Web3 journey, build innovative solutions, and network with leading Web3 experts, the statement read, adding that the initiative aims to redefine and provide impetus to Web3 adoption among developers.
The program caters to developers across all levels of proficiency and is focusing on capturing over 10,000 developers globally. Being chain-agnostic, it will further equip participants with the flexibility to build on chains of their choice. It will allow them an opportunity to win additional grants from the sponsors by presenting their solutions on the respective use cases, it said.
The two-month-long program will be open to solutions from a variety of diverse tracks like Decentralised Finance (DeFi), non-fungible tokens (NFT), Entertainment, Developer Tooling and infrastructure, sustainability-based solutions, governance and decentralised autonomous organisations.
To further augment dev-tool support and enhance global reach, #BUIDL for Web3 has also onboarded several
Web3 technology platforms and incubators as partners, namely —
Buildspace, Developer DAO, BuildlersTribe, The Phoenix Guild, Questbook, Blockchain Nigeria User Group, Webx DAO, Web3 Conf, CryptoDev Hub, Web3learn , Web3 Bharat, The Product House, Truts, Vanderbilt University, Penn Blockchain, Blockchain San Diago,and OGClubDAO. Through these partnerships, #BUIDL for Web3 aims to provide a wholesome and diverse environment to nurture innovations within the vast developer talent it aims to foster, the statement read.

While more than 34,000 new developers contributed code to web3 projects in 2021, it only represents a small segment of the total number of software engineers globally, according to a report by Electric Capital published in January this year.
Hackathons and Accelerator programs like these help in strengthening and upskilling the developer pool of the rapidly growing Web3 space. Metaverse is also playing a promising role in this. Several Web3 players are building a metaverse for developers, where they can explore freely, grab global Web3 opportunities and enhance their abilities as Web3 developers, said Lumos Labs.

As things swiftly moving towards virtual reality, artificial intelligence and metaverse, companies eagerly organising a hackathon to evolve developers’ potential.
In March this year, Google invited applications for its Girl Hackathon 2022 platform that allows women to showcase their coding skills and harness their creative solutions for real-time technical challenges.
In June, Energy management company Schneider Electric launched a supply chain hackathon named ‘Innovate to Inspire’ for start-ups. The hackathon will be backed by K-Tech Innovation Hub and will focus on finding solutions specific to the global supply chain challenges.
Similarly, other platforms are also organising such programs and getting good responses from the developer community. Web3 startup CoinSwitch received 1,500 registrations for its ‘Building Future Cities’ hackathon last month, which seeks to offer a platform for building blockchain-based public services solutions in India.
