If you’ve ever posted content on social media sites such as Facebook or Twitter or blogging sites such as Medium, you may be under the false perception that you own the content you create. The bad news is that you don’t. The current iteration of the web is one dominated by corporations. Power is centralized within the big tech names. We, the humble users, are little more than assets in this world.

The good news is that a very different vision is underway – one called Web 3.0 and investors such as Dr. Deeban Ratneswaran are enabling early-stage innovators to build this version of the web. Dr. Deeban Ratneswaran’s VC company GD10 Ventures is already showing how lucrative this market can be. They invest in early-stage web 3.0 start-ups taking innovative blockchain-based platforms from concept to mass adoption.

The company has made impressive returns and invested in some of the most exciting web 3.0 ventures around. According to their website, GD10 Ventures has around $25 million assets under management and has made more than 70 tier 1 project investments since 2018. Their website claims these have delivered an ROI of 2500% since 2019.

Web 3.0 is seen by many as the future of the web, but defining what it is can be difficult. For Dr. Ratneswaran, Web 3.0 is the next generation of decentralized web applications in which users are in control. They include play-to-earn blockchain-based games in which users accrue ownership of digital assets that they can trade with other players to generate a reward.

Recently web 3.0 came to the fore thanks to Mark Zuckerberg’s multi-billion dollar gamble on the Metaverse, but people like Dr. Deeban Ratneswaran have already been here for some time. For him, this represents an incredible opportunity as he recently Tweeted

“We were seeding GameFi and Metaverses before the hype. SportFi is going to be one of the next big movements in Web3.”

This sector is still early stage and is yet to enter mainstream consciousness. However, that only adds to the excitement they feel for its proponents. A complete transition to web 3.0 from web 2.0 may take some time, just as was the case from 1.0 to 2.0, but the opportunities in this space can be monumental.
